With a population of 3,6 million people, Lithuania, southern part of the Baltic states, has rapidly developing music industry infrastructure and an ambition to go international with a local talent. The newly established project Music Export Lithuania for the first time provides at PopKomm a stand for Lithuanian participants (Hall 17 / 409).
The best of Lithuanian Hip-Hop
On display at PopKomm this year is hip-hop band G&G Sindikatas, the flagship of the Lithuanian hip-hop community. Their showcase is slated for the final Hip Hop Popkomm showcase Popkomm City Jam at the Pfefferbank (Schoenhauser Allee 176 a). Provocative, innovative and instantly influential, the band has been around for 11 years making it from dark basements to filled stadium shows. G&G Sindikatas consisting of 3 MC's (Svaras, Pushaz, Kastetas), three times Lithuanian DMC champion DJ Mamania and the Producer Donciavas who writes beats for most of the Lithuanian hip-hop artists, to date has released 3 official albums and 1 underground EP. The total sales sum up to 50000 copies in a country of 3,6 million.
Their intelligently written rhymes explore the hardest and realest, mixed with social-activist stances. Here are no fake hip-hop blink-blink features and they grab you by the throat. G&G Sindikatas latest video Muzika kuri saugo (Music That Protects) is on air since September on MTV Baltics.

Music Export Lithuania is launched
The new project was started in July 2006 to support the internationalization of the local music industry as well as assist in furthering the work of Lithuanian artists.
The brand new undertaking is supported by LATGA-A, Agency of Lithuanian Copyright Protection Association and is aiming to maintain close contacts with all relevant parties in the Lithuanian music industry, initiate and carry out various promotional projects, sales initiatives and showcases. Music Export Lithuania also develops powerful database of Lithuanian music to be launched online in 2007. According to Daiva Parulskienė, head of the new initiatve, "The new project is an outcome of growing understanding in our country that more consolidate action is needed to market and sell Lithuanian music abroad. And I am glad to get the response on the part of our music industry. There is an ambition among our companies to internationalize their acitivity and we want to support that by all possible means. PopKomm is an excellent places to introduce our new effort".

Music Export Lithuania comes to PopKomm with some 7 companies, all intent on promoting the country's hottest music as well as music services.
Melodija is putting forward one of the most beloved Lithuanian acts SKAMP, whose single "A ka guelen" now is being promoted in Germany on more than two hundred Nielsen Control / Media Control relevant radio stations. The title song generated significant professional interest in Germany and should help to propel the band into the international market.
Lifted from a recurring motif in Lithuanian folk music, RyRalio Records is dedicated to bring the distinct flavor of its national dance music talent to the world. Based upon a true love of house music, RyRalio Records incorporate innovative styles ranging from deep and funky house to nu-jazz. At PopKomm the label is looking for worldwide distributors of our forthcoming releases, producers for remix/joint projects, artists/bands planning to visit the Baltics, as the company is one of the leaders on mobile electronic music events market in Lithuania.
PopKomm is also attended by the experienced and ambitious newcommers of the local music industry, Monaco Production, label specialised in pop/rock/dance music. As well as by one of the largest wholesalers and retailers in Lithuania Bomba, which owns also several record labels. PopKomm this year is also attended by Baltic Optical Disc (BOD), the largest manufacturer of CDs and DVDs in the Baltic territory.
