Melody by Onutė Narbutaitė as well as Talking by young composer Marius Baranauskas have scored high positions at the 51st International Rostrum of Composers (IRC) in Paris, which gathered representatives from 29 national networks from four continents and presented 59 works composed within the five years preceding the Rostrum. CBC Executive Producer David Jaeger (Canada) chaired the sessions. Narbutaitė's Melody for orchestra (2001) went to the first position on the list of Recommended works in general category. Originally composed as a second movement of the Symphony No.2, in past few years Melody has enjoyed exceptional popularity on its own. The participants who voted for this piece noted its moving sincerity, melancholic beauty and most refined craft as some of its winning assets.
Positively evaluated by the radio broadcasters was also orchestral piece by Marius Baranauskas, which took firm fourth position in the category of Young Composers. Talking (2002) was also chosen among the five finalists of the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2004. Performed on May 30 at the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under Norichika Iimori, it was announced the winner of the third prize. It seems that big time is not over for this young composer who was recently commissioned a new piece, called It for two percussionists, due to premiere during the upcoming Gaida Festival performed by Pedro Carneiro and Pavel Giunter.
