Lithuania has won the right to host the ISCM World New Music Days in 2008 [Classical / Contemporary]

The General Assembly of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) that took place from July 17 to 22 in Stuttgart decided by a large majority of votes to hold the ISCM World New Music Days in 2008 in the capital city of Lithuania Vilnius.

The World New Music Days in Vilnius will become a historical event: already before the Second World War, the members of the ISCM Lithuanian Section established in 1936, representatives of the first Lithuanian avant-garde Vytautas Bacevicius, Jeronimas Kacinskas and Vladas Jakubenas, sought to hold the ISCM World New Music Days in Lithuania (at that time - in Kaunas) in 1940, but this plan was not bound to be put into life.

The ISCM World New Music Days 2006 are presently taking place in Stuttgart. On July 18th the composition "Ouroboros" by the Lithuanian composer Vykintas Baltakas was performed by the ensemble "musikFabrik" conducted by Johann Debus. Besides, in the auditions of the winners of the electro-acoustic music competition "Short Cuts: Beauty" held by ZKM (Karlsruhe Art and Media Centre), on July 18-28th, the composition "Sunset Arrays" for prepared piano and computer by the winner of the second prize Vytautas Germanavicius can be heard.

In 2007 the ISCM World New Music Days will be held in Hong Kong, in 2009 - in Sweden.
