Gaida Festival Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary [Classical / Contemporary]

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the international new music festival Gaida is currently ranked among the largest and most influential contemporary music forums in the Baltic region. Its 20th anniversary edition will take place from October 22 to 29 this year, presenting 15 events in various venues around Vilnius, with a startling diversity of programmes, featuring unique music and theatre projects, appearances of the distinguished Lithuanian and international performers and orchestras, world premieres and modern classics.

The festival continues to explore the theme of musical theatre, by initiating and presenting projects based on the synergy of musical and visual imagery. This year it presents a unique concert installation Sandglasses composed by Justė Janulytė and produced by an international Lithuanian-Italian team of artists, and Wolfgang Mitterer’s opera Massacre that has earned wide international recognition since its new production directed by Ludovic Lagarde. Among many other themes, names and long-standing traditions, Gaida 2010 is pleased to introduce the musical novelties from the Southern European countries. Italy will be represented by the leading figures of the Italian music scene – composer Fausto Romitelli and the Icarus Ensemble.
