Galina Savinienė

Biography

Galina Savinienė (b. 1946 in Kaunas) studied composition under Prof. Julius Juzeliūnas at the Lithuanian State Conservatoire (currently Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre) in 1968-73. In 1975-79 the composer lived in Bangui, Republic of Central Africa, where she worked as a music teacher. Since 1979 she has taught at the 4th Music School in Vilnius (1979-84 head of music theory department). In 1982 she has earned a title of teacher methodologist, and in 1999 - teacher expert. The composer is actively involved in students' preparation for various competitions, takes part in music pedagogy conferences, gives seminars and works in a field of pedagogical methodology.

Galina Savinienė's vocal and choral music is regularly performed in children concerts, competitions and festivals, song festivals in Lithuania and abroad. Her compositions were featured in concerts in Great Britain, Albania, Australia, Denmark, Jamaica, USA, Malaysia, France, Germany, and Middle East. In 2002 Saulius Karosas Charity and Support Foundation awarded her a prize for "Modus" for piano six hands.

Galina Savinienė dedicates most of her attention to vocal-instrumental music. Her songs are marked by expressive melodies, easily graspable and performer friendly. Their music language is simple, mainly employing major-minor harmonic system. Instrumental works are a little more radical, dominated by dissonant combinations of seconds, fourths and fifths, as well as sonoristic effects. Characteristic of her music is transparent texture and sensible use of compositional means. "I do not analyse music, I simply compose, however I try to process an afflux of feelings rationally", maintains Galina Savinienė.
