Programme note:
The Trapezium (Theta Orionis), a space object, was the starting point for the idea and concept of this piece. The Trapezium is probably the largest and most spectacular of all known stellar systems. It rotates around its mass centre as a single celestial body. It is a formation of four main objects each of them, in turn, is a system comprised of several stars. Hence, this cluster system, which embraces smaller systems, may be considered the super system. Active processes take place in this area of space leading to the birth of stars and other celestial bodies which then cluster into different systems. In addition to that, the trapezium-shaped four multipartite objects could symbolise the material world in many aspects, such as four points of the compass, four elements, four seasons, four temperament types, and so on. This resembles a miniature model of the universe which reflects the largest cosmic macro-scale in a symbolic way and sends us incentives to search for analogies with the rules commanding our daily lives. Structurally, the piece is founded on the objective parameters of the huge system, such as its magnitude, diameter, mass, rotation periods, number or members inside the system, their grouping and so on. The original musical system has been developed by linking these physical parameters of the space object to various musical parameters.
