Performance of modern dance and live contemporary music (2012, Lithuanian premiere)

This year marks the 100 anniversary of John Cage, one of the most important composers and influential creators of the 20th century. In relation to this, GAIDA 2012 presents new production of world-famous Portuguese choreographer Rui Horta based on music by John Cage (“Sonatas and Interludes” for prepared piano).
This project is co-produced by Casa da Musica Porto, Salzburg Bienale, KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen Hannover, Festival Musica Strasbourg, Festival Romaeuropa Rome, Fondation Gulbenkian Lisbon and European Network ‘Réseau Varèse’ supported by Culture Programme of the European Commission.

ENSEMBLE MUSIKFABRIK (GERMANY)
Rebecca Saunders. Chroma XVII (2003–12, Lithuanian premiere)
This is the main project of the festival reflecting and revealing spatial theme of GAIDA 2012. Special architectural composition by well-known British composer Rebecca Saunders will be performed by one of the best European music ensembles “musikFabrik”. Various groups of musicians of this ensemble perform this work in different spaces of the venue, while audience can walk around the musicians inside the rooms and in the halls and to follow this ‘music journey’ not only in time but also in space, in one or in different spaces.
This project is co-produced by KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen Hannover, Salzburg Bienale, Festival MaerzMusik Berlin, Huddersfiled Contemporary Music Festival and European Network ‘Réseau Varèse’ supported by Culture Programme of the European Commission.
