Spanxti

In ten years of its existence Spanxti has changed music styles and group’s line-up many times, but always kept searching for deep and novel musical dialect. From an experimental project Spanxti has grown to be a permanent collective, which stands out for its unorthodox, profound neo-folk compositions enriched by ritual texts of ancient Indo-European nations. Their newest album, Dievo žirgai, Laimės ratai (God’s Horses, Wheels of Happiness, 2012), features works ranging from mythological and war to celebratory folk themes rendered by acoustic guitars, violin, accordion, percussion, keyboard instruments and female vocal. According to Vytautas Rinkevičius, the Baltic scholar and founder of the group, Spanxti offers a creative approach to Baltic mythology and spiritual culture in general, catalysed by elements of authentic folklore of today’s Baltic nations – the Lithuanians and Latvians, and creative reconstruction of shared Baltic perception of life. Arguably, this is the first musical project uniting Lithuanian and Latvian musical heritage so far.
