The new issue of the Chicago-based journal of arts and sciences
Lituanus (vol. 52:2), dedicated to Lithuanian folk song and its transformations, has come out. The edition, which generally focuses on art, history, language, and literature of Lithuania and the Baltic countries, now includes also CD "Transformations in Lithuanian Song". It acts as a guide to Lithuanian folk songs, presenting the songs and
sutartines from different regions of Lithuania (some of them recorded as early as in the 1930s) and their influence on contemporary music. Along with the classical and contemporary composers (Kazimieras Viktoras Banaitis, Feliksas Bajoras, Algirdas Martinaitis, Vaclovas Augustinas and others), recordings of the folk-rock groups "Atalyja" and "Žalvarinis", as well as the neo-folk performer Donis, have been included.
