Crown for wind orchestra by Šarūnas Nakas, commissioned by the Gaida Festival in 2005, will receive its repeated performance on February 9 at the Funkhaus Wallrafplatz, WDR studio in Cologne. The whole concert, performed by the Windkraft Tirol under the baton of Kasper de Roo, will be transmitted live on WDR 3 and recorded on the CD.
Šarūnas Nakas: „My musical crown is that of large dimension, like static and monumental icons of loud sound. It involves no conflicts, detailed dynamics, or narratives. The wind orchestra plays tutti virtually the entire duration of the piece. But more importantly, it aims at the illusion of infinity and eternity.“ The piece was written in the memory of composer‘s good friend Vladas Zalatoris (1961-2005).
The programme of the evening on February 9 will also include pieces by Johannes Maria Staud, Harrison Birtwistle as well as premiere piece by Casper Johannes Walter Vier Schwebungen.
