‘There’s music for the legs and there’s music for the head,’ says Extronica (Simonas Sližys), and one can be sure that he’s up for the latter option. Having left Lithuania for Canada 15 years ago, Extronica has returned to the motherland with a solid musical baggage. Studies of digital composition at York University (Toronto) helped shape the young composer’s taste for imaginative, subtly detailed textures, complex rhythms. Placing Extronica’s music within the boundaries of a particular electronic music genre is quite tricky. What’s certain is that this music is heartfelt, powerful, melancholically poetic and introspective. And, despite Extronica’s 'foreign' background, deeply Lithuanian in its spirit.
