Dykumos is something that is yet to be defined. Although its core members (especially singer/songwriter Eglė Sirvydytė and percussionist Domas Strupinskas from MIR Project) and various collaborators are more or less well-known to alternative music lovers in Lithuania from other solo and group projects, what they have come up with as a collective is truly stunning – and, to be frank, unlike anything previously produced here. Contemporary American indie rock, with all of its intricate extended instrumentation and cinematic introspection that’s always ready to burst in squalls of alternately-tuned guitar riffs, is the first thing that comes to mind. Not much of the collective’s history is disclosed to the listener thus far, which adds to the general mystical effect. The several mesmerizing videos that are available make an impression of leaked tapes from some underground commune that organizes its life around the sublime experience of playing together.
