Žalvarinis

The expressive folk rock group from Vilnius, one of the best-known modern folklore bands in the Baltics, was founded in 2001. They mostly perform the ancient pagan songs and sutartinės (polyphonic hymns) arranged in a variety of styles, ranging from light to hard rock, with a touch of blues and jazz. They describe their mission as an attempt to revive the obsolete Lithuanian folk songs and to present them in the new and attractive way. An enviable combination of the explosive rock energy, vivid folkloric colours and wonderful voices of the group’s three singers make for a true must-see at concerts and festivals, which have thus far included Mėnuo Juodaragis, and Suklegos in Lithuania, Regioo in Estonia, Baltijas saule in Latvia, and various town festivities in different countries. In 2008, Žalvarinis recorded their third album, Folk'n'Rock (released on Monaco).
