Kristina Vasiliauskaitė is in demand among American choirs

The music of Kristina Vasiliauskaitė has rapidly become popular among various choirs in the USA, since the release of two of her masses and several songs, by the California based choral music publisher, Santa Barbara Music Publishing. Aiding her growing popularity in America, is the 2000 release by the same company of a "MultiCultural" CD, which includes both Missa brevis for women's choir, and Missa brevis in honorem Beatae Mariae Virginis for mixed choir. The latter will be recorded in November by the Quire of Voyces (cond. Nathan Kreitzer), which has performed this work on more than one occasion. The Oregon Chorale (cond. Bernd R. Kuehn), has also included the mass in its programme, "Treasures from the Baltics and Beyond: Sacred Melodies", which commences with two concerts in Portland and Hillsboro, Oregon, at the beginning of June, and offers eleven performances while subsequently touring the six countries of the Baltic.

Recently, American choirs have also taken an interest in other works by Kristina Vasiliauskaitė. Her Mass in Honour of St. Cecilia (originally written in Lithuanian) will be premiered, in the presence of its author, by The Candler Choraliers (cond. Marian E. Dolan, organist - Linda Cable Shute) on April 25 and 26 in Atlanta, Georgia. Together with a series of concerts, this project includes a collection of religious choral music, "Let the Peoples Sing, vol.2: Sacred Choral Music from the Baltics" (ed. by Marian E. Dolan), to be issued at the end of May by Augsburg-Fortress Publishers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Along with works by Latvian and Estonian composers, vol.2 includes three religious hymns by Kristina Vasiliauskaitė - By Faith, Morning Prayer, Agnus Dei - as well as Vytautas Miškinis' Gloria in excelsis Deo from Missa brevis.
