Giedrius Puskunigis (b. 1972) is one of the best known Lithuanian composers of his generation who has received acclaim both in his native country and abroad. He studied composition with two prominent Lithuanian composers, Bronius Kutavičius and Vytautas Barkauskas, before taking on professional courses for young composers abroad, in Poland and the Netherlands. Best known as a theatre and film composer, he has won four national awards and another two prizes in Slovakia and France. In addition to that, Giedrius has presented his compositions in a number of international festivals of contemporary music held in Lithuania.
His music always follows in the wake of action, accompanying it with psychologically motivated gestures and minimalist patches of sound flow, along with some elements of jazz and Oriental music. The isles of silence in his soundtracks alternate with logically and emotionally suggestive platforms of sound, thus subtly adding a new dimension to the artistic expression in a theatre performance or film.
