Algirdas Brilius (b.1964) studied composition at the Lithuanian Academy of Music with Eduardas Balsys, Julius Juzeliūnas and Bronius Kutavičius. Since 1988 he has been lecturing on composition and theoretical subjects at the J. Naujalis Gymnasium of Music in Kaunas. In his life, Algirdas Brilius successfully manages to combine the activities of composer and IT specialist. In 2001-02 he studied at the DeVry University Keller High School of Management (USA). In 2003 he was certified as the European Commission's expert for information technology.
Algirdas Brilius' works have been performed at the festivals in Lithuania - "Gaida", "Iš arti", Pažaislis music festival, International M. K. Čiurlionis piano and organ competition (his organ piece "Matthew" was included in the required repertoire of the 1994 competition).
Large-scale instrumental works predominate in Brilius' creative output. Abstract, "mathematical" development of musical material, different ways of structural variation, elaborate polyphonic technique go well with impresionistic feel, broad symphonic strokes and well-balanced sense of space. The works on religious subjects make up important part of his music (Symphony No.3 "Viaticum", Missa in Honorem Beato Jurgis Matulaitis, Magnificat for soprano and chamber ensemble).
