Donatas Prusevičius (b.1966) in 1986-1987 studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music with Vytautas Laurušas, in 1988-1992 - in the Composition Class of Osvaldas Balakauskas. In 1993-1994 took master classes with Krzysztof Meyer in the Cologne Musikhochschule. In 1994-1997 lived and worked in Torun, Poland.
His compositions are constantly performed at various festivals of contemporary music in Lithuania: Jauna muzika (1993, 1995, 1996, 1998) and Gaida (1998) as well as abroad - in Moscow (1990), Cologne (1993), Copenhagen (1994), Poznan (1990).
The works by Donatas Prusevičius are marked by rationalism and a creative employment of contemporary compositional methods. The composer applies the principles of polyphonic thinking, serialism in an original and individual way. Prusevičius' favourite genre - string quartet, where he juxtaposes a 12-tone series with the complexes of Lithuanian polyphonic songs sutartinės (No.3) and a 6-tone complex (No.5); in Quartet No.4 he juxtaposes various tone-rows and rhythms. In 1997 the latter string quartet won the Third Prize at the Competition for chamber string works arranged by the Music Fund of the Composers' Union.
