The 10th of April, Saturday...

Year of Composition:  2010
Duration:  14
Instrumentation:  S-3222-4331-3perc-cel-str
Samples:   Audio

Commissioned by the Gaida Festival 2010

Premiere:

22 October 2010, at the Vilnius Congress Hall (Gaida Festival); performers: Asmik Grigorian (soprano), Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, conductor Mindaugas Piečaitis.

Programme note:

I dedicate this symphonic poem to the victims of the crash of the Polish presidential aircraft as well as to the victims of the Katyn massacre. However, I shied away from the direct illustration. This is rather an inner experience of the tragedy. It is a moment between the Existence and Non-existence dissected by the slash of Destiny.

Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Te decet hymnus Deus, in Sion,
et tibi reddetur votum in Ierusalem.

Qui audis orationem,

ad te omnis caro veniet propter iniquitatem.

Grant them eternal rest, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
A hymn becomes you, O God, in Zion,
and to you shall a vow be repaid in Jerusalem.

You who answer prayer,
to you all people will come.

Text from the Introit for the Requiem Mass
