Gentle Touch of a Sea Wave

Year of Composition:  2010
Duration:  18
Instrumentation:  3ob-angl-bn

Movements:

I. Sea Wave

II. Pieces of Baltic amber

III. Sea Festival

Programme Note:

The piece was inspired by the charm of the Baltic Sea. Every year I spend my leisure time in Juodkrantė where I usually stay at the seaside. Continuous rustling of water, gentle caresses of waves, lucid pieces of amber have become ingrained in my memory. Hence I wrote this cycle:

Part I “Sea Wave” is a playful movement, sometimes verging on drama;

Part II “Pieces of Baltic amber” depicts vast expanse of the sea and pieces of amber, sparkling in the sun and pleasing the eye;

Part III “Sea Festival” is a toccata which conveys the mood of a sea festival – noisy gathering and merrymaking of people.
