Programme note
Perpetuum mobile for string orchestra (1988) is based on perpetually moving motifs that unfold in a linear manner and blend together into a canvas of subtle and melting colours. Individual voices are united by the drawling melody of the cello, akin to Lithuanian folk songs. Dense sequences of diatonic clusters create and intense dynamic scale.
Perpetuum mobile is one of the most popular works by Juozapaitis.
