Griežikai

One of the most distinct instrumental bands that adopt and promote the instrumental traditions of different regions of Lithuania. The members of the band are professional musicians, virtuosic performers on traditional instruments: bandonion (a type of accordion), fiddle, basedle (a type of bass), drum (leader – violinist, ethnomusicologist Gaila Kirdienė). The basis of repertoire consists of compositions written down by the musicians themselves and learned from village musicians: polkas, waltzes, foxtrots etc. Another part of their repertoire is early polyphonic music (sutartinės), performed on daudytės (long wooden trumpets), horns (wooden trumpets), skudučiai (multi-pipe whistles) etc.
