The Lithuanian Radio and Television Big Band was one of Lithuania's foremost big bands. Formed in 1985 by the members of the Lithuanian Radio and Television Orchestra, it has made its reputation for creative interpretations of jazz and big band classics, as well as music by contemporary jazz greats. Since 1991, the Big Band was directed by the composer and guitar player Jaroslavas Cechanovičius.
The Big Band was made up of Lithuania's strongest jazz soloists, such as saxophone players Danielius Praspaliauskis and Rimantas Brazaitis, trumpet player Valerijus Ramoška, trombone player Skirmantas Sasnauskas, keyboard player Dainius Pulauskas, drummer Linas Būda, and many others.
The Lithuanian Radio and Television Big Band has collaborated with such masters of contemporary jazz as Bertil Falt (Sweden), Anders T. Andersen (Denmark), Ralf Schrabbe (Germany), Lembit Saarsalu (Estonia), and others.
The Big Band was disbanded in 2006, by decision of the administration of the Lithuanian Radio and Television.
