The Sutaras folk band covers an entire range of Lithuanian instrumental folk music. Their instrumental repertoire comprises both items formed by age-old authentic traditions and nationwide practiced classical instruments spread across the country at the junction of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The members of this large band can play several instruments each, not to mention singing and dancing as they play, thus drawing their audiences into a whirl of general merriment. Their vocal repertoire includes the most beautiful traditional songs, solemn sutartinės (ancient polyphonic songs) and tear-jerking romances.
The band's musicians do not shun experimentation, and are often describing themselves as members of 'creative workshop'. They came into the spotlight of public attention with their special collaboration with the Vilnius Jazz Quartet, which has resulted in the release of "ethnojazz.lt" (2002). In 2006, Sutaras had once again made the grapevine buzz by presenting a world music project with Dainius Pulauskas Group.
Formed in 1988, the Band has given well over 4500 concerts; their performances have been broadcast on radio and television, and featured at numerous fairs and festivals in Lithuania and further a field.
